February 2025 - Pathways to a Desired Future

Welcome dear friends!
It's here! After a few years break, and following many requests, the Transition Movement’s international Newsletter returns. In these times of increasing challenges and overwhelming news feeds, choosing to engage with stories of community-led change is a form of activism that can support your mental health and contribute to effective action.
This past year has brought big changes in how Transition Network’s international team works alongside you and supports grassroots initiatives worldwide. In this edition we reflect on the journey so far and offer some next steps and pathways.
This month, we invite you to discover two exciting new initiatives: People of Transition and Voices of Transition, sharing diverse stories of change. Explore the live Calendar of worldwide learning and connection opportunities, and be sure to save the date for the Day of Transition Practice on April 4th. Check the featured resource that focuses on Regeneration, an essential skill for our groups. For a dose of imagination, dive into Greetings from the Future and send us your own living postcards from another time ahead (psst, surprises coming!).
Lastly, we are excited to be properly launching the Transition movement’s Community Research Project. This is a wonderful opportunity to share a story of positive change from your own unique perspective and in your own language, and keep weaving the movement stronger and more resilient. Share yours!
Yours in solidarity,
Transition Network International team
*NOTE: We're working to have translations available to a wide range of languages, these will be available soon, thanks for your understanding.

What's buzzing at TNi?
- Community Research Project is Live! Q&A session happening on Thursday February 20th at 5 pm UTC. We're gathering stories of change through a Community Research project. This will provide valuable information and resources for local groups to learn from each other, raise awareness of their activities, support fundraising efforts, and demonstrate the wide-reaching impact of our movement. Discover more here:
- Day of Transition Practise: Save the Date! We're baking the programme and it will be published soon. More info here.

- Voices of Transition - Check out some of the Voices of Transition, part of a training programme that enhances the public profiles of transition activists from diverse –and often underrepresented– backgrounds.
- Filipa's logbook: a journey full of candid personal and collective reflections. Read here.

Heartbeat of the Movement

- Wales and England, UK: More than 200 people attended the Transition Assembly gathering during 7th-9th February 2025. A special session has been arranged at 2-5pm on 8 March to share what went on at the Assembly, what came out of it and your chance to input into what’s next. Register here.
- Just Transition: A group of Transitioners are putting together a Just Transition training/impact bid tied to the EU program Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV). This aims to establish a working group dedicated to building a Just Transition framework for all to use. This document is their starting point. Want to participate? Contact Michael Boyle or Sanna Iranta.
- Australia: Did you know that some Aussie Transitioners are singers at the Melbourne Climate Choir? This is one of the beautiful songs they sing as a form of artivism in public events and performances:
We honour the Land that we’re living on
We honour the Country and the Old Ones
We sing up Country and we sing it up strong
For we are all connected as one
We are all connected as one
We honour the Ones who have gone before
We honour the wisdom of the ancient lore
We sing up Country and we sing it up strong
For we are all connected as one
We are all connected as one
We honour the Earth and the Sea and Sun
We honour the living and the life to come
We sing up Country and we sing it up strong
For we are all connected as one
We are all connected as one

Greetings from the Future
A postcard from 2050 sent by Esther, TNi's Comms Lead
Have you ever been to the future? Amazing, isn't it?
Current times are so challenging and difficult to many, but we can't surrender. Now more than ever, let's keep supporting each other and daring to dream of desirable futures. Every step we take in the present times is a seedling for greater ripple waves we can't anticipate - or can we?
Send a short clip to comms@transitionnetwork.org with your postcard from 2050 (or the year you manage to travel to) so we can share in the Transition Newsletter upcoming issues!
Please feel free to communicate in your preferred language.
You can also do the editing if you have the skills and passion for it, but don't let that stop you from submitting your entry! If that were the case, just send the raw video and we take care of the rest.
PS. We're preparing a special contest - the most imaginative postcards from the future we receive during this year 2025 will get some prizes!
