‘In the Making' is a story about possibility and power. The film follows young people across the UK who are navigating their own unique paths and driving social change. On the 24th of April, our short film will be a springboard for communities around the world to come together and answer crucial questions: what might be possible if we supported young people to be fully resourced and turn up in social movements? How can we practice intergenerational collaboration in a way that empowers us all? How do we stoke the fire of our youth, nurture passion into action, and create leaderful communities?

Where did 'In the Making' come from?

The journey of this film has been transformational. In February 2026, we - 8 young strangers - met up at the Transition Town National Assembly in Wilmslow, Manchester. The Transition Towns movement knew they needed more young people involved, so we were offered support to attend. We spoke about what it was like to be a young person today. We spoke about the strengths and struggles of trying to make change and live by our hearts. We spoke about what the movement could do to support young people to be resourced and turn up fully.

After the Assembly, we kept meeting up. We knew that this was just the start and that there was so much more work to be done. Having felt the power of being heard and seen at the Assembly, we decided to go out and start collecting, amplifying and storytelling other young voices from across the UK. Story by story, our film was built: ‘In the Making’.

What next?

The next phase of this journey will take shape as a co-created handbook – an invitation to deepen engagement with young voices at the heart of this moment. It will explore questions such as:

  • How can Transition become a truly intergenerational movement?
  • How can we grow together and make our work more accessible and inclusive for all?

Like the film, it will also name the challenges and barriers young people face as they try to show up for what they care about most. The handbook will include workshop formats, practical offerings, and next steps for Hubs ready to take this work further.
